News that Christopher Nolan is working on an adaptation of “The Odyssey,” makes it a good time to look back on his best work. Nolan is one of the best movie directors in modern history with standout films such as “Dunkirk” and “Oppenheimer,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Even though Nolan has a catalog of great movies, I’ve decided to rank four best movies he’s directed based on factors such as storyline, visuals, and actors–and, honestly, just my personal preference.
4. Man of Steel (2013)
In theNo. 4 spot, I’ve put “Man of Steel” as one of the best, although it is severely underrated. Many people argue that the movie doesn’t depict Superman the way he is portrayed in other movies or TV shows, but the movie is still pretty good. At about two and a half hours, it’s a movie that you can enjoy with your friends or family. It has a good storyline and interesting cinematography that isn’t usually found in films other than the ones of Nolan himself. The movie also has great actors, such as Henry Cavil, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane.
3. Inception (2010)
Inception is one of those movies that bring a new idea to the masses. The storyline of someone being able to get into one’s subconscious isn’t something that I at least didn’t hear about before watching this movie. Inception has great casting with big-time actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Crane and Cillian Murphy. The cinematography makes you think that the world is ending, but in an interesting way, a way that makes you wonder about being in a position like that.
2. Interstellar (2014)
The concept of space travel has often been shown in movies as the base for wars and exploration, although it kind of feels quite repetitive. “Interstellar” is not one of those movies which feel repetitive. Although it shares some of the same elements of other space movies, “Interstellar” gives them a more interesting turn. Nolan connects its storyline to important aspects of life such as love, sacrifice, and the survival instinct. With quite arguably one of the most beautiful-looking visuals that I’ve seen in a movie, as well as the accuracy that it has in visuals such as black holes and time dilation. With great performances from Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Casey Affleck, the film is one of the best of this century..
1. The Dark Knight (2008)
The aura of “The Dark Knight” is just over the top. Even though “The Dark Knight“ was released almost two decades ago, it has one of the greatest storylines as well as elements and visuals that make you ask for more. The participation of actors such as Christian Bale, Michael Cane, Morgan Freeman and Heath Ledger bring this movie to another level.
