The San Juan Unified School District has proposed installing a new cell tower on the Rio Americano campus.
The potential tower would be placed at the back end of the campus near the cafeteria building. It would include a FirstNet band which is only used for public safety purposes as well as standard cell bands for AT&T.
“Funds received from cell towers placed on high school campus grounds are allocated back to the high school and or earmarked as a grant opportunity for elementary and middle schools,” Rio principal Cliff Kelly said.
The district and Public Safety Towers Company will hold a virtual meeting on May 15 at 6 p.m. to collect feedback from community members.
