The scheduled construction of the new football stadium at Rio Americano is facing a conflicting timeline. Recently it has been announced that the school will begin construction of its new football stadium in the summer of 2026, however this is no longer likely.
On Oct. 13 there was a community meeting held at Rio Americano in regards to the new stadium. There the Director of Facilities and Construction for San Juan Unified said that construction of the stadium will most likely now begin earliest in the summer of 2027.
He also said that the construction company for the project has not been picked yet and that there is no estimation for the cost of the new stadium. This further addresses the likelihood that construction will not begin soon.
In an interview, Principal Kelly said “The hope is that it would actually, the work would start this summer… But right now, there isn’t a timeline that I have been provided.” With no official timeline given by the district it appears that the plans for the stadium are still in the early stages.
This may come as unfortunate news to many Raiders, especially the upperclassmen who won’t be able to see home football games here at Rio before they graduate. However the stadium will be built in the next couple years and students will finally be able to experience games of all sports at Rio.
